The “Japan Karate Association Kerala”, branch of “JKAWF INDIA Kolkata” and approved by “Kerala Karate Association” now has a new branch in Calicut (Kozhikode) headed by Vijayakumar PV Sensei. The group had their inaugural training camp today conducted by Somnath Palchowdhury Sensei as Guest Instructor, Chairman of JKAWF INDIA Kolkata. Sensei has visited Calicut just for a day to teach a group of 60 black belts and dojo instructors that lead a group of about 500 students in five districts of Kerala. There were many instructors aged over 45 and even a few over 50 years that attended the one day camp are overwhelmed by the fundamental aspects of JKA karate as taught by Somnath Sensei in a very easy way and in his trademarked friendly approach.The JKAWF INDIA Kolkata heartily welcomes this wonderful bunch of people in JKA family.Here are a few snaps of the day.
Keiko Hajime (Training Commencement) has been celebrated today the Monday 8th of January during the first training day of this new year 2018 at our Honbu Dojo. As usual tradition of Keiko Hajime the following simple ceremonial events did take place:1. Opening speach and wish for the year ahead by Dai-Sensei Somnath Palchowdhury, Chairman JKAWF INDIA Kolkata.2. Few of the member of the dojo performed a kata or kumite demonstration.3. At the end of their performance, each member stated his or her *ICHINEN* (single minded determination / oath) for the year.4. Dai-Sensei then made his closing remarks and thanked everybody for attending.5. Attendance Certificate of the Special Intensive Training Seminar, that held in Bangkok recently were distributed. All certificates were signed by the legendary Fujikiyo Omura Shihan, 7th Dan JKA, Director of JKA Asia-Oceania Region.6. A residential Camp has been organised by “AZAD HIND – IFSK School of Karate WB” headed by Biplab Ghosh sensei in Fulia, Nadia (an unit of IFSK) on 27-28 December, 2017. The training was conducted by instructors Somnath Palchowdhury, Srish Kumar De and Krishnendu Sen and was attended by the members of the organising dojo only. It was great to have over 150 karateka training and staying together to learn nothing but “JKA Karate”. The “JKAWF INDIA Kolkata” congratulates the hosts for a great gasshuku at the year ending.
The JKAWF KERALA a branch / member group of JKAWF INDIA KOLKATA has successfully completed their first state level Gasshuku for their members in Trivendrum on last 6th & 7th May conducted by Somnath Palchowdhury Sensei, Chairman – JKAWF INDIA Kolkata and Ameer AK Sensei, 2nd Vice Chairman – JKAWF INDIA Kolkata a JKA 5th Dan and JKA qualified Instructor, Judge and Examiner. JKA Shotokan Karate Camp 2017 organised by AISKS Sumanta Mukherjee Sensei’s unit yesterday on 25th March 2017 at Rani Bhabani School, Khanna, Kolkata. Instructor Somnath Palchowdhury covered JKA Shodan Syllabus and Kata Heian Yondan for all. Great training, warm hospitality and wonderful food. Thanks to Sumanta Mukherjee Sensei and his team.
NEWS UPDATE 20 March, 2017 The JKAWF INDIA Kolkata kids excelled in the 21st West Bengal State Karate Championship – 2017 that concluded yesterday at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra, Kolkata; hosted by KAB, the governing body for karate sport in West Bengal, recognised by the Bengal Olympic Association and WKF national federation, KAI.
The medal winners are:
1. PRIYANKA ROY – Silver – 14-15 Years (-40Kg) Girls’ Kumite – South 24 Pgs.
2. MEGHA MONDAL – Bronze – 14-15 Years (-40Kg) Girls’ Kumite – South 24 Pgs.
3. PRINCE BISWAS – Silver – 11 Years (-30Kg) Boys’ Kumite – North 24 Pgs.

We are glad to announce that SONA GHOSH Sensei, Vice-Chairman of JKAWF INDIA Kolkata has been awarded with LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD by Karate-Do Association of Bengal (KAB) for his contribution in karate for about 42 years and counting. Sona Ghosh Sensei had started his training in karate in 1967-68 in Burma when he was about 14-15 years of age. His family shifted to Kolkata in 1971. Sona Ghosh Sensei started teaching in Kolkata in 1975 which some 42 years back from now. He had produced hundreds of black belts till date and all of them had passed their ranks under foreign visiting examiners. Sona Ghosh Sensei is one of the pioneers of Shotokan karate in West Bengal who still trains and teaches regularly in YMCA – JKA KARATE CENTER, YMCA College Branch, Vivekananda Road, Kolkata.
The South 24 Parganas unit of IFSK, a member of JKAWF INDIA Kolkata has successfully organised a great camp on last Sunday 5 February, 2017 at Jadavpur, Kolkata. An initiative of instructors Puneet Bhattacharya and Prakash Ratne and supported by Lakshman Singh. The JKAWFIK office wishes to thank all students, parents, CES and well wishers that have supported the event and their keen interest in learning JKA Karate.
Throw back event: April 2016
The first official JKAWF INDIA Kolkata event that had been approved by the JKA HQ held from 26 – 29 April, 2016 when Toshihiro Mori Shihan 8th Dan was assigned by the JKA to conduct the camp in Kolkata. The camp was attended by 300 participants from various parts of our country, Bangladesh and also from Srilanka.
